Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients
- 18 oz or 510 g thinly sliced beef
- 1 medium yellow onion
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/4 cup white wine
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1.5 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tsp hondashi
- 1 cube beef bouillon
- 1 tsp kobu-cha powder
- 4 servings of rice
Directions
- In a small bowl, add water and beef, stirring with chop sticks or a fork so that the beef slices don't stick to each other.
- Cut onion in half along the direction of fiber, and cut each piece into two in same direction. Then slice the onion into 1/4-inch wedges across the direction of fiber.
- In a medium pan, boil white wine at medium-high heat.
- Drain the water from the bowl of beef into pan.
- Add soy sauce, brown sugar, hondashi, beef bouillon, and kobu-cha powder.
- Once it returns to a boil, add beef and onion and stir to separate the beef slices.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes.
- If it does not have to be served immediately, turn off the heat and let it cool down to near room temperature, then bring to boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Repeat this process once more, or place in a refrigerator and bring to boil and simmer for 10 minutes prior to serving.
- Serve rice in a don bowl or rather large bowl, and top with beef and onion. Pour some soup over rice to add moisture and flavor.
